SOMI is a next-gen sneaker discovery app that combines the addictive nature of swipe-based interfaces with deep sneaker culture. Built as a “Tinder for Shoes,” SOMI goes beyond e-commerce to foster connection and curation within the sneakerhead community. The product needed an interface that felt engaging, modern, and frictionless across user journeys like browsing, chatting, and collecting.
Introduction
SOMI redefines sneaker shopping by blending social media dynamics with smart commerce. This app serves as a hub for sneaker enthusiasts, allowing them to swipe through collections, chat with fellow users, and curate personalized shelves. The project focused on designing an interface that feels as natural as social interaction—easy, engaging, and community-driven.

While the swipe-to-match functionality was already in place, I was brought in to design three crucial components: social sharing, in-app chat, and sneaker collections.
Social Feed: A clean, scrollable layout where users can engage with shared sneaker finds from friends and groups. The design emphasizes image-first browsing, interactive elements, and content clarity.
Chat Experience: Designed both group and individual chat flows with an intuitive, messenger-like layout. The interface supports product sharing within conversations to drive engagement.
Collections Feature: A personalized, visual-first system allowing users to curate, name, and share their own sneaker collections. The UI makes it easy to toggle between private, shared, or public modes.
Design Principles
Mobile-first, touch-optimized interfaces
Consistent iconography and visual hierarchy across sections
Minimal color use with a focus on product images
Interaction flows that feel natural and modern
This project highlights the power of community-driven commerce, where users don’t just shop—they connect, express, and co-curate. SOMI is more than a sneaker app; it’s a social space for style-minded individuals.
